Illinois Democratic Governor JB Pritzker gave a passionate speech tearing apart Trump and Republicans for their reckless and tyrannical leadership. Yet, the media somehow mischaracterized his message and summed up his performance by quoting a throwaway line calling for more action from “Do Nothing” Democrats. The disingenuous headlines not only buried the lead, but they altered Pritzker’s point entirely. I imagine if Martin Luther King Jr quoted the Emancipation Proclamation in his “I Have A Dream” speech at the Lincoln Memorial today. The following day’s headlines would be “MLK Jr Disses Abraham Lincoln To His Face During Uppity DC Speech.”

Thankfully, 60 Minutes still has its integrity fully intact, for now, anyway. We will see if that remains the case after this Paramount/ Skydance merger goes through. With Trump’s FCC making the final call on the deal, there’s a real possibility that the usual “60 Minutes” of must-watch television every Sunday evening may eventually be downgraded to an alternating Trump family member 10-minute puff piece followed by 50 minutes of straight up MAGA propaganda infomercial. With the occasional Trump Bible QR code scrolling across the bottom screen for good measure. Isn’t it such a sad state of affairs that “People Magazine” has elevated from an entertainment rag to a trusted fact-based news source? Soon, the only place to find hard-hitting journalism will be at the checkout counter among the Skittles and tabloid articles about Hawk Tuah’s alien abduction.
