On the list of those culpable for the US devolving into an authoritarian dictatorship, Donald Trump falls somewhere near the bottom. Sure, Trump is a deranged lunatic who destroyed nearly 250 years of democratic values in the blink of an eye. But evil people like him are a dime a dozen. For example, there was a homeless guy who set a woman on fire in the New York subway recently and proceeded to watch as she slowly burned to death. Obviously, that’s the behavior of a seriously sick fucker. Now imagine a world in which the media started devoting a majority of their programming to this nutjob, and his political ideology just so happened to align closely with the GOP because, of course, it would. Then, after all the television and social media coverage this psychopath garnered, his enormous following somehow gets him elected President with the full support of the Republican Party. And then, on Inauguration Day, the newly elected Commander-in-Chief’s first official act is to nuke New York City into oblivion for no apparent reason. Do you fault the unhinged pyromaniac for burning New Yorkers alive when that’s his claim to fame? Or are those who built up and handed the nuclear codes to a known madman to blame for his actions? I realize that being a man of his word isn’t a strong suit for Trump. But he openly campaigned on becoming a dictator on day 1 and followed through on it. So when doling out guilt for Trump’s tyranny, it’s the 77+ million misinformed Trump voters, the Republican party, and the mainstream media who turned Trump’s crazed promise into a reality.

Isn’t it strange how Project 2025, fascism, and authoritarianism were all the rage when they were merely topics of a dystopian post-election future? Yet, when they are unfolding in front of our eyes in real time, the press refuses to call it like it is. Considering that when discussing Trump, the media is suddenly so tight-lipped about mentioning the word dictator. They’re acting as if saying it three times during a segment will magically summon Pam Bondi, like she’s the cease-and-desist-serving Beetlejuice of MAGA.
